GENERAL ACADEMICS: Spalding - Students will learn 6 new words on Monday, 7 new words on Tuesday, and review on Wednesday. The 13-word spelling test will be on Friday. Math - Methods of subtraction History - The Mesopotamia Unit test is on Tuesday. - Geography Review on Thursday. Literature - Owl at Home - The Owl at Home literature test will be on Thursday. Grammar - Nouns Poetry - "Little Turtle" poetry recitations begin this week. We are down to the last 2 weeks of the 1st quarter! This week:
GENERAL ACADEMICS: Spalding - Students will learn 6 new words on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The 18-word review will be on Thursday and the spelling test is on Friday. This week’s Phonogram test is on Thursday. We want to emphasize the importance of practicing the 70 phonograms daily for homework. We suggest dividing them into groups of 17 per day for 4 days and keep repeating them each week. Math - Methods of subtraction which include using related facts to solve a subtraction problem, number bonds with subtraction, recognizing that a missing part means subtraction, and counting back to subtract. Xtramath - Xtramath is a math facts program for all students (both in-person and distance learners). Students receive a homework grade for Xtramath; the requirement is to log in 3 times each week. Also, no credit is given if the session is incomplete. History - Ancient Mesopotamia - religion Literature - Owl at Home Grammar - Nouns – common and proper Poetry - "The Little Turtle" by Vachel Lindsay. Make sure your scholar is practicing this poem at home. OTHER CONCERNS: Extra Masks - Though we are guiding and supporting the scholars in taking care of their masks it is inevitable that that they will occasionally get lost, dirty, or broken. For that reason, please place an extra mask or two in your child's backpack. Blue Folders – We sent Friday’s blue folder home today; please take the time to look at the returned work and keep them at home. Send the empty folder back tomorrow. Uniforms – Our handbook states: Pants ‐Girls and Boys : Color: Navy Blue Socks : · Color: Solid White, Solid Black or Solid Navy · No visible logos · Length: Crew or knee‐high · Girls may also wear white or navy tights IN-CLASS LEARNERS: ***Row Rewards: We are looking for volunteers who would like to donate small wrapped treats to give out on Fridays to rows who scored high points for the week. DISTANCE LEARNERS: Parents, please review these Zoom rules with your scholars: -Show up a few minutes before class time and wait to be admitted into the class. -Find a quiet place free of distractions (siblings, television, pets, etc.). -Be respectful at all times. Wait to be called upon before unmuting. -Stay focused and on task so you don’t miss anything the teacher says. Math - Addition concepts review, introduction to subtraction History - Ancient Mesopotamia Literature - "Different Lands, Similar Stories," Introduction to Owl at Home Grammar - Proper nouns and common nouns Poetry- "The Little Turtle" by Vachel Lindsay *Note* - As stated in the Athenian Echo, there was no synchronous learning via ZOOM for distance learners today, September 15th. All work was asynchronous and posted on Google Classroom for today. HOUSE KEEPING ITEMS: Below are a few items that parents have e-mailed and asked about: Google Classroom - As stated in last week's Athenian Echo and last week's blog, administration has removed all in-person students from Google Classroom. Distance learners are, of course, still able to access Google Classroom. Submitting Work in Google Classroom - We kindly ask that classwork is submitted in Google Classroom in as prompt a manner as possible. Please make sure all pages of an assignment are submitted. The 8-word spelling test will be on Friday. Math - Continued focus on methods of addition, including counting on and mental math. - looking at an equation and determining if it is true or false Science - The Scientific Method History - Ancient Mesopotamia Literature - Different Lands, Similar Stories - Little Red Riding Hood and Hu Go Po Grammar - Proper nouns (Mary, Target, Legos) vs. common nouns (girl, store, toy) Poetry -"The Little Turtle" by Vachel Lindsay XTRAMATH HOMEWORK: Everyone should now be logging in to Xtramath at least 3 times per week. This is a part of your scholar’s math grade. RAZ-KIDS READING: Flight Checks were posted this past week so that we can assess your child’s reading skills. ATTENDANCE REMINDER: If your scholar is an in-person student, they can only be marked present if they physically attend class. In-person scholars are placed in a separate category entirely by the Arizona Department of Education and are now on a separate track. Though they have access to Google Classroom for a few more days, this format cannot replace in-person attendance. If your in-person scholar needs to be absent, be sure to call the Archway Trivium East Attendance line at 623-218-6607. GOOGLE CLASSROOM ACCESS: As stated in the Athenian Echo, in-person scholars will only have access to Google classroom for a couple of more days. First grade in-person scholars will have access to Google Classroom until this Thursday, September 10th. Please see the Athenian Echo for more details.
