Both of us will be teaching at Roosevelt next year so we won’t be seeing many of them. We just ask that they continue to seek truth, goodness, and beauty in all they do – no matter what school they attend. NAME THE GOOD: This has been a wonderful school year! Have a wonderful summer!

Have a great week!! We are now more than halfway through the last quarter of first grade! We have learned so much this year!
We are again in need of boxes of tissues; with the allergy season come a lot of runny, itchy noses! We do appreciate those of you who can donate a box or two to get us through this last month of school. MID-QUARTER REPORTS: I am not sending home mid-quarter progress reports this time. Every week you receive the blue folder with the week’s work in it, so you can see how your scholar is doing. Anytime a paper is sent home requesting a parent’s signature, you can see that your child demonstrated that the subject matter was not mastered yet. Therefore, if you do not receive an email indicating that your first grader has a grade that is below grade level, you will know that he or she is meeting grade level expectations. Fyi- The grade of 1 is considered below the grade level expectations and the student has not displayed evidence of learning the concept. The grade of 2 is considered inconsistent to the grade level expectations. The grade of 3 is considered to be meeting the expectations of the grade level. There are 5 weeks left in the quarter to continue to support and help your scholar. Below I have listed tips for supporting at home.
If you would like to speak about your scholar’s progress in more detail or if you would like to meet with me to discuss ways to you can support him/her during the summer, please e-mail me with a request to schedule a meeting. A REQUEST FROM HEADMASTER PHILABAUM: Mr. Philabaum as requested that the following be included in our blogs - “We are hoping to have as many parents fill out the homework survey as possible. Our plan is to gather meaningful information to see how our intended homework standards align with our students’ experience. We are ever aiming to keep out homework meaningful and manageable, while allowing the students the opportunity to challenge themselves and practice self-discipline and time management. We will not be able to get a full assessment of how we are aligning to our standards if we do not have full participation. If you have not already done so, please take 2-3 minutes to fill out the survey! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9MV5279 The survey will close on Tuesday, April 26th.” GENERAL ACADEMICS: Spalding - Students will learn 10 words on Monday and 10 words on Tuesday.
