It's hard to believe that there is only one and a half weeks of school yet! This is our last full week; next Monday is the last full day, with Tuesday and Wednesday being half days. I am going to miss this first grade class of scholars!
ACADEMICS: Spalding - Students will learn 10 new words on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, review on Thursday, and take the spelling test on Friday. Math - Students will be doing end of the year Singapore testing on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Each day we are reviewing for what will be tested the following day. Please check your scholar's red folder for review papers; practice whatever concept they may not understand. Also, continue work on completing the addition or subtraction facts on xtramath.com - especially if your child is on the facts up to 10. History - Westward Expansion - Daniel Boone and the Wilderness Road through the Appalachian Mountains; President Thomas Jefferson's purchase of the Louisiana Territory, which doubled the size of the United States; and Lewis and Clark's expedition to the Pacific Ocean with Sacajawea's invaluable help. On Thursday, a review guide will be sent home for you to review with your scholar for next Tuesday's final history unit test. Literature - Fairy Tales - Rumpelstiltskin, Rapunzel, and Hansel and Gretel Literature test on Friday. Poetry - "There Once was a Puffin" by Florence Page Jacques - recitations for a grade this week. UPCOMING DATES: May 13-17 - Teacher Appreciation Week Monday, May 20 - Full day of school Tuesday, May 21 - Half Day Dismissal, 12 PM. No lunch served. Wednesday, May 22 - Half Day Dismissal, 12 PM. No lunch served. LAST DAY OF SCHOOL Have a great week! CONCERT:
This is just a reminder that the first grade concert is tonight. Students must arrive by 5:30 for rehearsal. The concert is at 6:00. It won't be as dark outside at the end of the concert as it was after the winter concert. That makes things a lot less nerve-wracking for me as I can better see where my students are. We will be the first first grade class to leave the building so we will be the first class to arrive at the designated pick-up area. Once I know everyone is with me I can dismiss them to you. ACADEMICS: Spalding - Students will learn 10 new words on Tuesday, 11 words on Wednesday, review on Thursday, and take the spelling test on Friday. Math - Students will continue to work with money this week. The chapter review will be on Thursday and the unit test will be on Friday. At the first grade level, the best way to help you scholar with money is to just get out small handfuls of change and help them count! :-) Science - We are finishing up our astronomy unit. The geology and astronomy review is on Tuesday. A study guide will be sent home on Tuesday. The test is on Thursday.
